9 Lavender Oil Benefits for Your Wedding Day & Everafter

Lavender Oil Benefits for Your Wedding Day

Lavender. We love your presence on this blog and in life! Today, we’re explicitly talking about lavender oil.

When people think about lavender, the first thing that comes to mind is the soothing fragrance of its purple flowers. The plant is also famous for its many benefits from essential lavender oil. But, did you know there’s more to lavender than its sweet fragrance and beautiful flowers?

Lavender oil is used to help alleviate various health problems such as acne, burns, headaches, infections, insect bites, insomnia, and stress.

In fact, on my wedding morning, a cousin offered her a roll of lavender oil to calm my nerves. I applied a dab to both wrists and inhaled its aroma whenever I needed a quick lavender fix. Besides calming nerves, I think it could make for an excellent bridal shower gift!

Lavender Production Fact

The lavender market is booming in many parts of the world.

When one thinks about the production of lavender, the iconic lavender fields of Provence are the first vision to come to mind. Many think France is the world’s largest producer of Lavender.

Wrong.

According to this Daily Mail article, the Balkan country of Bulgaria is cited as the biggest producer!

Why Use Lavender Oil?

In the weeks and days leading up to your wedding (or any other stress-filled event, for that matter), you may need extra help to stay relaxed. That’s where lavender oil could become your secret weapon. The essential oil has been known to treat various skin, hair, and muscle problems and relieve headaches, stress, and even insomnia.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common health benefits of lavender oil:

1. Acne and Eczema

For people with pimple problems, lavender oil is a natural remedy. This is because it contains antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, which can fight acne-causing bacteria. You must dab some lavender oil on your pimples with a cotton swab and wait to see the results.

I always remember the scene in the movie ”My Big Fat Greek Wedding” where the bride gets a zit. Maybe she should have tried lavender instead of putting some Windex on it!

Eczema is another skin problem that causes irritation and embarrassing blemishes. The good news is that lavender oil can help relieve and reduce eczema-related itchiness. It can also speed up the healing process due to the moisture applied to the irritated area.

Why Use Lavender Oil

2. Burns and Insect Bites

Likewise, lavender oil acts as a treatment for minor burns. It may help relieve the burning pain and speed up the healing process. The oils can also help treat scars caused by minor burns.

After putting the burned skin under running water for 10 minutes, add some lavender oil drops to the area. This will help the charred skin to heal more quickly. You should always consult a doctor for more severe burns as soon as possible.

Lavender oil is also helpful for treating and relieving insect bites. Just drop some lavender oil onto the bitten area to help reduce the swelling and itching. Aside from this, the oil can also serve as an insect repellent.

3. Stress and Tiredness

Stressed out and tired after a long day at work? Keep some lavender oil on your hand and use it to massage your tired muscles. Massage some of the oil onto your feet before you go to bed is also a good idea.

Another option is to prepare a lavender soak. Add about four to six drops of lavender oil to a bowl of warm water. Place your tired hands or feet in it for ten minutes, and you will find yourself more relaxed and refreshed.

Lavender is almost magical. Elena from Love and Lavender tells a story about how diffusing lavender essential oil helps her through tough times. She’s going through a stressful divorce, she’s trying to earn some extra cash, and the only thing that keeps her sane is her lavender oil.

4. Insomnia

Are you having a hard time going to sleep at night? You could have insomnia. Don’t worry, though, because lavender oil can help you get the sleep you need.

In the olden days, people used to fill their pillows with lavender blooms. They believed that the flowers help get a good night’s sleep.

Today, we know that there is a scientific explanation.

According to an Elite Daily article, lavender oil is the “best winter friend” you could ever have. It can help soothe your nervous system, thus inducing you to relax and sleep better. The lavender scent can cause alpha waves to work on the part of your brain responsible for sleep and relaxation.

5. Anxiety and Depression

Because of its anti-convulsive and sedative properties, lavender oil can help treat a person who suffers from anxiety and depression. It is a common ingredient in herbal remedies to help people feel calmer and relaxed.

The mere presence of lavender in your room is a big help. Place some lavender stems in a flower vase. Better yet, place a pot of lavender in one corner of your room. Not only will the plant help you relax, but it can keep mosquitoes away too.

6. Hair Loss and Dandruff

Hair loss is one of the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Since lavender oil can help treat people suffering from these conditions, it can also help prevent excessive hair loss. Massaging some lavender oil into your hair improves your blood circulation, and so does your hair growth.

Dandruff can be an embarrassing hair problem when not treated properly. To help prevent a dry, itchy scalp that causes dandruff, make a mixture of lavender and olive oil. You can make this mixture by combining two tablespoons of olive oil with 15 drops of lavender essential oil.

Massage the mixture into your hair and then put on a shower cap. After one hour, wash the mixture off using mild shampoo. This is an effective way of getting rid of dandruff.

7. Digestion

One common health problem is indigestion. Symptoms include stomach pain, belching, and vomiting. If you are suffering from indigestion, you can try lavender as a solution.

Lavender can soothe the lining of your digestive tract, which relieves the pain caused by indigestion. Lavender can also ease constipation problems. Cook a tablespoon of lavender buds in boiling water and drink it as lavender tea.

8. Wounds

As mentioned earlier, lavender oil has antiseptic properties. This makes it an effective treatment for cuts, scrapes, and wounds. It also has antimicrobial properties, which help prevent damage from getting infected.

To use lavender oil to treat wounds:

  1. Combine it with olive oil or jojoba oil.
  2. Mix one part of lavender oil with ten pieces of either olive or jojoba oil.
  3. Use this mixture as a topical treatment for your wounds.

9. Natural Perfume

Aside from treating various ailments, lavender oil can also act as a natural perfume. With this all-natural and chemical-free perfume, you won’t need to spray scents that could damage your skin or the environment! Just dab some lavender oil onto your wrists or neck, and you’re good to go!

Lavender Oil: Natural Wonder?

It isn’t surprising that some call it the wonder oil. And all this talk about lavender oil’s many health benefits and uses has me wondering, “Is lavender oil the 8th wonder of the world … that could be used for stressed-out brides?”

I will admit that I am currently NOT a full-time lavender user. Shocking, right?!

I do love both the aroma and natural beauty of lavender. After researching content for this article and seeing just how positive our favorite namesake plant can be for health, I know I need to adopt it more fully into my life. In the meantime, let’s pick up a bottle to give therapeutic-grade lavender oil a try.
