How to Take Care of Your Blonde in Colder Months

They say blondes have more fun, but this isn’t necessarily true for your hair in the colder months. Although all hair struggles as the level of sunshine drops and the cooler temperatures start drying out your hair, blonde hair tends to come off worse.

There are several reasons why this happens:

1. Fading

Unless you are a natural blonde, your color will fade much faster in the colder months because the sun isn’t continually bleaching it. That means you’re going to need to dye it more often.

2. Heat Damage

The lack of sun also means you’ll need to dry it with heat tools more often. That can be damaging to your hair, making it more brittle and likely to break.

3. Cooler Temperatures

The cooler temperatures also dry out your hair more; they do the same for your skin. That’s why you need to know how to take care of your blonde in colder months.

4. The Right Product

Haircare always starts with the right product. Whether you are talking about shampoo, conditioner, a mask, or any other hair product, the key to looking after your hair is to use a natural product that you know works. For example, choose something from the Kerastase range, and you can be confident that your hair will be getting all the hydration and nourishment it needs.

It doesn’t hurt to use a mask weekly as well.

5. Consider Your Tone

As the weather cools, you are likely to lose the tan you’ve spent all summer getting right. However, you can continue to complement your look by darkening your blonde slightly. It will help create balance with your skin tone, and you’ll find it easier to maintain a somewhat darker blonde color.

6. Get Your Touch-Up Right

A key to keeping your blonde hair looking perfect is to make sure it is touched up regularly. Although you can do this at home, it is advisable to have it done professionally. It will take 6-8 weeks for most people for your hair to grow 2-3 inches. At this point, it is going to need a touch-up.

Book your appointment well in advance, and you won’t miss it or suddenly find it’s been ten weeks and your hair feels horrible.

7. Make It Color Safe

Any product you use on your hair should be color-safe. This means it won’t damage the dye you have in or cause it to darken faster than you would like. Check the product before you buy it. If it says color-safe, then you can use it.

8. Watch Your Drying

Heat styling tools are likely to dehydrate your hair and potentially leave it brittle. This will make it challenging for you to continue dying your hair as you risk further damage.

Make sure you use a heat-protecting spray when drying and styling. Ideally, you should give your hair at least one day off a week. This will help you to keep your blonde hair looking fantastic throughout the year.
